Man Slaps Crying Baby On Delta Airlines Plane, Uses Racial Slur, Charged With Assault (PHOTOS/ VIDEO)

A 60-year-old Idaho man was charged with simple assault after allegedly slapping a child aboard an Atlanta-bound Delta Airlines flight according to the Associated Press.

The child's mother, Jessica Bennett, 33, told authorities that Rickey Hundley, who was sitting next to her on the plane as it prepared for landing, slapped her crying son in the face, causing a scratch under his right eye. Bennett also stated to police that Hundley used a racial slur when telling the boy to be quiet.

Bennett received assistance from several people on the plane, including some who heard and saw exactly what Hundley did to the child.

Todd Wooten, who was seated a few rows in front of Bennett, said he came to help her after he heard "derogatory language" being used behind him according to official court documents.

The child only cried louder after being slapped, according to Bennett.

District attorneys stated this week that Hundley was not immediately taken into custody after the plane landed, and it is unclear whether or not the case will go to court. Hundley is the president of an aircraft manufacturer based in Hayden according to TheSmokingGun.com.

He's denied striking the kid in the face and using a racial slur. He has confirmed to police officials that he "asked the mother to quiet the child" as the flight was landing.

Hundley has previously been found guilty of DUI in March of 2012 according to KHQ.com.

Bennett has yet to comment to the press on the matter.

"We think that it is important to let the case develop, and we'll see how it all comes out," Hundley's attorney Marcia Shein said according to the Associated Press.
