During the 2017 Detroit Autorama, the iconic Dodge Charger named General Lee from the "Dukes of Hazard" movie flew off a five-foot ramp and slammed the front end onto the pavement. Although the hit looked painful, the driver was unharmed and the vehicle was still intact.
It seemed like Bo and Luke Duke were off on a crazy ride again. Stunt driver, Raymond Kohn, took the General Lee and made it fly through the air. The '69 Dodge Charger had the similar bright orange with black details as its color and ran 55 mi./hr. before it jumped off a five-feet tall ramp, reported Auto Blog. Although the jump and the speed were impressive, the vehicle failed to land in finesse as the bumpers kissed the pavement.
The stunt was one of the highlights of the event, a showoff for the 65th annual Autorama Show which took place at Cobo Center last weekend. Although the stunt looked impressive on the television screen, the stunt man failed to land the vehicle without the scratch even if the car was reached 25 feet off the air. According to the driver, the jump was quite impressive and felt like he was a roller coaster ride, reported Motor Trend.
The '69 Dodge Charger was specifically designed to survive jumps and hard landings. In fact, it was expected to survive massive amounts of shock which would prevent the stunt man from incurring any injuries. However, it only took two jumps before the vehicle could not take in any more damages. It was also unclear whether the jump was good or bad since the landing was gnarly from all angles.
The General Lee from "Dukes of Hazard" jumped farther on the screen when the Duke Boys rode it through their wild escapades. Unfortunately, the stunt man during the 2017 Detroit Autorama failed to keep the '69 Dodge Charger intact when it flew in the air twice.
