2018 Ferrari Dino: What to Expect

The 2018 Ferrari Dino is one of the most highly anticipated cars for 2017-2018. The car is expected to be fast but more importantly, the Italian automaker will be giving it a V-6 engine.

Dino. The Dino brand is used by the Italian sports car manufacturer to models that have engines below 12 cylinders. These cars spanned from 1968 to 1976 and included some notable cars such as the iconic 246 GTS. Ferrari may soon resurrect the name for a highly-anticipated entry-level sports car.

2018 Dino. Auto Car UK reported that there had been rumors about the new Ferrari Dino having a V-6 powered engine. Maranello admitted this after a lot of prodding and in June 2015, Sergio Marchionne finally confirmed this.

In August 2015, two months later, spy photos of a Ferrari 458 Italia-based mule were leaked. According to the sources, the car's engine didn't sound like it was a V-8 (4.5-liter V8 in the 458 Italia). In addition, the mule also had a 488 GTB with it in the convoy that sounded like it didn't have a turbocharged 3.9-liter V-8 engine either.

In addition, the 458 Italia's central exhaust system was not there. Instead, the mystery mule had two empty holes cut into the rear bumper right above the diffuser. Moreover, there are also speculations that the sound of the engine exploded like the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine of the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Verde.

In October 2015, Top Speed also confirmed that Ferrari already filed the necessary patents for its upcoming V6-powered Dino. The drawings reveal that the new Ferrari Dino will be a convertible with a rigid sunroof and a front engine. This is similar to the 488 Spider's retractable roof and will most likely get a 3.0-liter V-6 engine like the Alfa Giulia.

Drivetrain. The new Dino is a big deal because of its V-6 engine. The last time Ferrari had a car powered by a V6 was back in 1974 when the original Dino got a V-8. Since then, the V-6 engines have only been available in Ferrari Formula One cars.

Ferrari will reportedly use a modified 3.0-liter V6 similar to the Alfa Romeo Giulia QV. The current Giulia QV engine generates 503 horsepower, but the Ferrari will likely have more than that.

Price and Release Date. The Dino is supposed to have a more affordable price point but Marchionne has denied all of this. Sources believe that the 2018 Ferrari Dino will have a price tag similar to the California T at around $200,000. The sports car is expected to arrive sometime in late 2017 or early 2018.
