Tesla Will Supply 200 Model S and Model X Vehicles with 'Full Self-Driving-Capability' to Dubai Taxi Company

Tesla signed a deal to supply 200 Model S and Model X fully self-driving-capable electric vehicles to the Dubai Taxi Corporation. Elon Musk made the deal official at the World Government Summit in Dubai, UAE, last Monday.

Electrek reported that the Dubai Future Foundation has been trying to acquire autonomous driving technology since last year. Their new goal is to convert 25% of their city's traffic to autonomous driving by 2030. They also have a concept for an autonomous taxi by the Silicon Valley electric vehicle maker.

The deal was between Elon Musk and Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). The two signed the deal at the World Government Summit 2017 in Dubai.

There is yet no exact timeline for the delivery of the 200 vehicles, but the company plans to start deliveries in July. There was also no mention of the value of the deal, but it is estimated to be worth over $18 million.

In other related news, Mashable reported that a 41-year-old man named Manfred Kick was driving his Model S. He noticed a man in a Volkswagen driving erratically around Munich, Germany. Kick soon realized the man was unconscious so he did what any other hero would do. He pulled in front of the VW and slowly braked so that both cars would come to a stop.

Kick then entered the VW and performed first aid on the man. The VW driver suffered a stroke and was taken to the hospital. He is now reported to be stable.

The combined damage to both cars was around 10,000 euros. In a tween, Elon Musk shared the story and also offered to provide all repair costs free of charge.

Tesla not only cares about the environment, but it also cares about its kind-hearted drivers. With the self-driving taxi deal in Dubai, the Silicon Valley electric vehicle maker will be even busier. What do you think about the company's deal with Dubai? Share your thoughts and comments below.
