A facelifted 2017 Toyota Yaris will make its public debut at the Geneva Auto Show in March. Before all that, it has been revealed in Europe as a refreshed version with a sportier look packed with safety features that are usually found in big cars.
The refreshed Toyota Yaris received more than 900 new parts according to the Japanse automaker. Further, the newly added parts are designed to improve the car's safety, dynamic performance, and overall design.
Improved safety is now assured by the Japanese automaker for this refreshed hatchback model. Digital Trends reports that hi-tech safety features which are usually found in expensive car models are now finding their way into economy-focused modes.
And the 2017 Toyota Yaris is one simple proof to this changing view. The car is equipped with Toyota Safety Sense package which is composed of a suite of driving aids such as pre-collision system with autonomous emergency braking, road sign assist, lane departure alert, and automatic high beam.
Further, this newly updated Yaris comes with a new exhaust system with sub-silencer, new driveshafts, larger engine rill restrictor. Also, a modified intake airbox and a new front subframe is included in the facelifted hatchback.
The 2017 Toyota Yaris is packed with a new 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine. This was developed to replace the outgoing model's 1.3-liter engine, for Europe. But this wouldn't affect US models because they are already equipped with the 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, according to AutoGuide.
The facelifted hatchback can produce 111 horses and 100 lb-ft of torque, which is comparable with that of the US model. The company claims its 0-62 mps is at 11 seconds flat. This is 0.8 seconds faster than the older model. Manual and FWD will come standard.
Plus, the European model's engine is part of the Economy with Superior Thermal Efficiency (ESTEC) family. The gasoline-electric hybrid will also be available, although official specs have not been released by the Japanese automaker as of this writing.
The front ends of the 2017 Toyota Yaris have been revised with new headlights, a new bumper, fog lights, and of course trapezoidal grilles that will remind of you Darth Vader's helmet. Meanwhile, the tail lamps have been redesigned making it bleed into the hatch, emphasizing the vehicle's width.
The Japanese automaker promised that the newly refreshed hatchback is quieter compared with the outgoing model. Also, it has been fitted with new trim pieces, a 4.2-inch colored thin-film transistor information display, new propeller-style air-vents, and other user-friendly controls.
The model that will debut at the Geneva Auto Show is the European version. Also, the 2017 Toyota Yaris might debut this April during the New York show for the US version.
