Super Bowl LI was exciting but not without the drama from the players to the commercials. While the New England Patriots were busy defeating the Atlanta Falcons, performances from Lady Gaga and the battle between noteworthy commercials also made this year's Super Bowl worth remembering. Let's check out the biggest winners and losers in the "best" Super Bowl of all time.
Let's begin with the winners. These include the Mother Monster Lady Gaga and her performance during the Super Bowl LI half-time show, the comeback of the Patriots after years of controversy, and Bai's 2017 commercial.
Lady Gaga's Half-Time Show. The Super Bowl wouldn't be complete without a half-time show, which is usually performed by the biggest names in show business. The Mother Monster slayed, killed, and of course murdered the stage with her best performance by far, although the NFL did not pay her, per usual.
Viewers were anxious wondering whether the Mother Monster would actually include a political message in her performance. Although it was not overtly there, her performance did contain hidden messages, in a way.
Lady Gaga sang "God Bless America" before switching to "This Land is Your Land," a tune that's popular in protests that took place after President Trump took office, reports USA Today. This was soon followed by her hit songs "Poker Face," "Born This Way," "Telephone," "Just Dance," "Million Reasons," and "Bad Romance." But that mic drop surely made history.
New England Patriots Comeback: Tom Brady and Bill Belichick Team up. The New England Patriots finally made their biggest comeback in Super Bowl history. They won over the Atlanta Falcons 34-28 in overtime during the Super Bowl LI, the first in Super Bowl history, but no team has ever overcome more a 10-point deficit since.
This is the 5th championship in the team up between Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. The 39-year-old QB, Tom Brady, set his record for the most passing yards and most completions, 43. He certainly cemented his name as part of NFL's greatest QB. Meanwhile, Bill Belichick traded blows against Atlanta offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, ultimately winning the game.
Bai 2017 Super Bowl Commercial. Bai's commercial hit the spot when it features Christopher Walken and Justin Timberlake. Listening to Walken reading dramatically the lyrics to NSYNC's song is a total win.
If there are winners, of course there are losers in some form. Let's include here the Commissioner of the NFL Roger Goodell, Atlanta Falcons, and Sprint's ad.
Roger Goodell
The NFL's Commissioner was more likely rooting for the other team during the Super Bowl LI, but it was an awkward moment when he had to hand the Lombardi trophy to Patriots owner Robert Kraft. Goodell was mercilessly booed by Patriots fans, and he can barely be heard when he attempted to congratulate the winners, per Forbes.
But a 9-second video showed that Goodell did exchange handshakes with Brady and both had a few exchange of words. Goodell signed off 18 months worth of legal battles that cost the Patriots millions of dollars and a 2-year pain when the NFL went after Brady and the team for deflategate.
Atlanta Falcons
It was a total unexpected win for the Patriots as the Falcons were in the lead. But a dramatic turn of events switched the table in favor of the Pats. Winning the Super Bowl LI could have boosted the demand and pricing for the Falcons.
Sprint's Ad wasn't that funny
This is one ad that perhaps needs to go back to the drawing board. Faking a father's death as an opening act in order to get out of the Verizon contract was totally not funny.
This was indeed one epic battle not just between the players. As to who will make it next season Super Bowl will be determined once the season begins.
