BMW Diesel Cars More To Come This 2017

Regulators delayed BMW diesel certification last year, but the giant carmaker is about to start building the model year 2017 diesel cars for the United States market. BMW’s 3 sedan and wagon as well as diesel versions of X3 and X5 SUVs may appear on the market soon.

According to Auto Blog’s report, the oil-burning variants of BMWs 3 Series sedan and wagon, as well as diesel versions of its X3 and X5, may appear on the United States market soon. Rebecca Kiehne, the Zimmer spokeswoman confirmed that the diesel models such as the 328d Sedan, 328 Sports Wagon, X3 xDrive 28d, and X5 xDrive35d will start the production shortly. Back in July the EPA said it would delay BMW diesel sales in the United States because the United States regulators were taking longer than expected to certify the vehicles. BMW confirmed that certifications for the 2017 model year 328d Sedan, 328d Sports Wagon, X3 xDrive28d and X5 xDrive35d had been held off. With sending diesel vehicles to the United States, Bimmer will jump back into the domestic diesel market as Volkswagen continues to sort out the mess caused by its diesel emissions scandal. Last week Volkswagen board approved a $4.3 billion settlement with US authorities as part of a civil and criminal probe.

The Volkswagen scandal continues to unfold and the last week the EPA accused Fiat Chrysler Automobiles of falling to reveal eight separate software routines that altered the behavior of diesel engines in Jeep and Ram vehicles, Green Car Reports reported. Diesel has accounted for as much as 4% of BMW’s United States sales in previous model years, although with cheaper gasoline, the current demand remains unknown. Mercedez Benz is also mulling over whether to withdraw its diesel vehicles from the United States market. Jaguar Land Rover recently launched a diesel version of its Range Rover and Range Rover Sport SUVs.
