The Xbox One S As A Laptop: Modder Ben Heck Shows How It's Done

Fancy a DIY project this year? Internet celebrity and modder Ben Heck has demonstrated how he turned an Xbox One S console into a working laptop. He started the project in the fall and has finally revealed the device on his latest internet program.

Picking something apart should require expert technical know-how, which is to say that this was an easy project to do. But the end result should bring satisfaction for anyone who might be inspired to try the modification because there's not a lot of bespoke Xbox One S laptops around. In fact, Heck is not even selling his unique creation.

Heck said that he thought of doing the modification after he pulled apart the Xbox One S when he acquired it in August last year. He did not have the desire to put it back together in the way it was originally intended, so he studied the components carefully.

He saw that Microsoft's latest gaming console has powerful and useful components necessary for building a laptop. He envisioned what he had in mind and proceeded to illustrate his ideas with the help of Microsoft OneNote and Adobe Illustrator.

He enumerated the step-by-step process that also involved the use of laser patterns, 3D printers and CNC machine on his show. Heck enhanced, ported and replaced some of the existing parts, including the power supply for the 1080p LCD screen, Element14 cited.

The end result was a one-of-a-kind Xbox One S laptop that is WiFi-enabled and comes with a Blu-ray player, hard drive and wireless controller. The one difference of this gadget to actual laptops, however, is that it's not portable as the user will have to keep it plugged at all times since it has no batteries, Digital Trends noted.

Check out how Ben Heck modified the Xbox One S into a laptop in the video below. What can you say about the final product?
