Nintendo's newest gaming console is set to hit store shelves on March 3. But consumers are growing concern over the availability of the Nintendo Switch following problems with the release of the NES Classic in the supply chain line.
Nintendo's North America president and chief operating officer Reggie Fils-Aime addressed the Nintendo Switch availability issue in an exclusive interview with Wired. The executive gave assurance that there is enough stocks for anyone who wants to buy the console.
"Two million for essentially the first month is a huge number," Fils-Aime said. He estimated that this is enough to supply a three-month demand. "Our focus is making sure that the consumer who wants to buy a Nintendo Switch can buy a Nintendo Switch," Fils-Aime added.
He also cited that the company is well-prepared to make the new console available and accessible for gamers. He acknowledged that they did not anticipate this when the Nintendo released the NES Classic last November.
Back then, the company made the assumption that gamers have the Wii or Wii U and won't likely purchase the NES Classic. With that said, Nintendo isn't going to make the same mistake for the Nintendo Switch.
The news comes as IGN reports some retailers have already sold out on preorders merely days after the launch. GameStop executives are already seeking Nintendo for additional stocks.
The new console will retail for $299.99 in the U.S. It is basically a unit packed like a joystick console (Joy-Con) hybrid, according to Forbes. This Joy-Con device can be used as a controller when playing games on a big TV screen. It also has sliding attachments that can be fitted into its own smaller screen component, which looks like a tablet.
Charging the device will require an additional accessory that costs about $30. According to EuroGamer, the grip controllers have to be recharged in a separate unit, hence potential Switch users should also factor this into their budget. Learn more about the Nintendo Switch in the video below.
