Alfa Romeo Getting Ready To Become A Major Player In The US Premium Car Market

The Alfa Romeo has traditionally been regarded as a famed Italian sports car. With three models, the 4C, Giulia and Quadrifoglio already being sold in the U.S., the company looks ready to compete in the premium car market.

 Car Scoops recently reported that Reid Bigland, Head of U.S. Sales for Alfa Romeo, desires to veer away from the sports car category and move to the lucrative premium car market. Mid-sized sedans and SUV's constitute 40% of the premium car market.   

Alfa Romeo's Giulia is being positioned against market leaders Mercedes-Benz C-Class and BMW Series.  The Giulia is set at a price of $38.990 to compete against the BMW 3-Series at $34,445 and the Mercedes C300 at  $40, 425. 

The 4C was introduced ahead of the Giulia in the U.S. but it will be the latter that is expected to compete in sport sedan category dominated by brands from the U.S., Germany, Japan, and  England. The price level of Alfa Romeo cars is within the right range that can compete against the leading premium car brands.

When it comes to performance, the standard Giulia and the sporty Giulia Ti are both powered by a 2.0-Liter turbocharged inline four engine that spews 280 horsepower and torque of 306 pound-feet. The Giulia can reach the acceleration from zero to 60 miles per hour in just 5.1 seconds. This feat is way ahead of competitors with the same price range.

The bigger Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio is priced at $73, 595 which is at par with Mercedes-AMG C63 S Sedan, but higher in price than the BMW M3 and Cadillac ATS-V. The Quadrifoglio has a 2.9-Liter bi-turbo V6 engine that generates 505 horsepower and a 443 pound-feet of torque.

The Quadrifolgio can accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in just 3.8 seconds. With superior technical specifications and competitive prices, the Alfa Romeo cars look ready to make a mark in the 2017 premium cars market.
