Chevrolet Bolt EV Is NAIAS 2017 Car of the Year; Received Two Other Awards [Video]

Chevrolet Bolt EV was declared Car of the Year at the ongoing North American International Auto Show being held at Detroit. Second place went to Hyundai G90 Sedan while third place was garnered by the Volvo S90 Sedan. The title made the Chevy a threat to Tesla, which was considered as the leader in the field of electric cars.

In the NAIAS, the contenders were evaluated based on their EPA-estimated mile range in a single charge. The Chevy's 238 miles per charge was the highest among all cars included in the competition. It can go from 0-60 miles per hour in just 6.5 seconds, a feat for a vehicle that runs purely on electric. This earned it big points and these helped it win the title in the NAIAS, according to Fox2.

The Chevrolet Bolt EV was also named Motor Trend Car of the Year, another accolade that most cars are aiming for. What made it stand out among other cars is the fact that it is simply a car of world-class quality. Winning Car of the Year Award from Motor Trend implies that it met all the qualifications that include advancement of design, engineering excellence, efficiency, safety, value and performance of intended function, according to Motor Trend.

Another major award that the Chevrolet Bolt EV received was the Green Car of the Year Award. One reason why people hesitate to buy an electric vehicle is that they worry about mileage. There is always fear that the battery will just die down in the middle of nowhere. With the Chevrolet Bolt EV, car users are assured that the car can travel ong range, according to Hybrid Cars.

Other awards that the car received were the AutoGuide Readers Choice, Best EV/Plug In Vehicles, Best New Car to Buy, Best EV to Buy and Best Hatchback to Buy. The awards received by the company's electric vehicle are proofs of Chevrolet's commitment to make breakthroughs in the field of auto making.
