This year's Barrett-Jackson auction will be filled with beautiful Chevrolet Corvettes. The most notable car for auction is a Chevrolet Engineering Research Vehicle (CERV) developed by Zora Arkus-Duntov himself. There will also be a 1969 L88 Corvette, 1962 Corvette Heavy-Duty Brake and a 1962 Corvette Split-Window. The latter two are Corvette "Fuelie" models.
Scottsdale, Arizona. This year's 46th annual Scottsdale Barrett-Jackson auction is a good year for Chevy enthusiasts! There will be hundreds of different models to choose from, apart from several other celebrity cars. The event will officially start on Jan. 14 until the 22nd at WestWorld of Scottsdale in Arizona.
Perhaps the most anticipated of the lot is a very rare 1960 Chevrolet Engineering Research Vehicle (CERV) 1. This was developed by Zora Arkus-Duntov a.k.a. the "Father of Corvette." This car is considered to be one of the most iconic pieces of American automotive history and culture.
The CERV 1 was originally developed as a functional prototype racing car. It is a mid-engine, open-wheel, and single-seater only vehicle. This was only used for test laps during the 1960 U.S. Grand Prix.
Its main purpose was to help the development of the Chevrolet Corvette suspension and driveline components for the actual production car. The Chevrolet Engineering Research Vehicle is undoubtedly one of the great experimental landmarks in General Motors' history. This will definitely be the highlight of the Barrett-Jackson auction.
There will also be two collector item Corvette "Fuelie" cars at the auction. The word "Fuelie" refers to a fuel injected car, most notably for '57 - '65 Corvettes equipped with the optional factory fuel-injected V8 engine. The two Chevys are a 1962 Corvette Heavy-Duty Brake and a 1963 Corvette Split-Window, both of which are in pristine show condition.
The 1962 Corvette is one of 246 made in 1962 and has less than 27,000 miles to it. The 1963 Corvette has also been restyled by the famous Naber's of Houston. The restyling cost a whopping $138,000 alone!
And finally, there is also an ultra-rare 1969 Chevrolet L88 Corvette. It comes with its original engine and transmission. This is an award-winning Corvette and one of 216 L88s ever built.
That's a lot of Chevys to look forward to! This year's Barrett-Jackson auction will definitely be one for the Chevrolet Corvette lovers. Expect Zora Arkus-Duntov's Chevrolet Engineering Research Vehicle, the Corvette "Fuelies," and the L88 Corvette to be definite show stealers. How much will they sell for?
