Mercedes-AMG Hypercar: "Perfect And Stunning" [VIDEO]

To mark half a century of AMG, Daimler chief designer says, the "perfect" model will be out this year. The much anticipated Mercedes-AMG R50 hypercar shall be clearly distinguishable as a product of the three-pointed star brand.

Gorden Wagener, the chief penman for Daimler, who signs off on every new model launched under the Mercedes brand told Car Advice at CES 2017 that the new hypercar was a fulfilling project to lead. The car is very clean and pure, but is also very extreme. Proportions were a designer's dream: as with all hypercars, the aggressively styled new offering will be extremely low and broad across the body, to be powered by a formula one drivetrain - one can't do much wrong because it's low and wide - the Mercedes-AMG R50 (if that is what it is going to be called), it's perfect, it's stunning, he added.

What makes it different from all other super or hypercars out there, is the hard part, according to Wagener. And what makes the Mercedes-AMG R50 the Mercedes of the hypercar and always relate it to formula one, he thinks, is that it is a very special car that happens once every 50 years or so, the one truly makes a statement in history and that it should better do it good.

Released by the company were two teaser sketches of the new model, which celebrates 50 years of AMG, and Wagener stated that they were realistic interpretations of what can be expected to see when the car is unveiled later this year, which he described as "fantastic".

Wagener did not divulge the oily bits but he specified it as not going to be a single-seater, but at the same time, it will not be practical, according to Motor1. What is known is that Mercedes-AMG's formula 1 car for the road would be powered by an adaptation of the turbocharged 1.6-liter V6 engine used by the championship-winning W07 Hybrid. The R50 will be able to at least deliver 1,000hp in a featherweight car set to employ active aero to boost performance because of electrification.
