Honda Civic 2017 Hatchback Review: Sporty and Smooth; Finally Back in America!

The Honda Civic 2017 Hatchback is back and aims to please. It puts the fun in functional and will definitely awaken a sense of racing nostalgia in every car enthusiast.

Pros and Features. The hatchback is a five-door unlike the previous three-door Civic Si. It is very similar to the 2017 Civic sedan and coupe models. It is shorter by 4.5 inches giving it a sportier stance. It has the same amazingly comfortable and well-designed interior as the best-selling Civic sedan and coupe variants.

The car's athletic build has a new design from the original B-pillar. It also has a revised front fascia that includes a very cool looking black grille. It has larger openings and larger front and back bumper inserts.

The Civic 2017 hatchback has a 1.5L turbo four-cylinder engine. It has 174 horsepower and a 167 lb-ft torque. It has a six-speed manual and a CVT. The car is also very fuel efficient.

Cons. The Civic hatchback is heavier than the coupe or sedan. A lot of racing enthusiasts also hate how the top of the line models only have 2 pedals. The manual six-speed transmission is only available for the two lower-end models. The higher version models only take premium gasoline.

While the hatchback is sporty and built for racing, it can't compare to the high-performance Civic Si and Civic Type-R. Additionally, the high-performance models are expected to feature manual-only transmissions.

What's New? The Honda Civic hatchback is new to North America! After a nearly seventeen year absence, Honda finally brought back the sporty Civic.

Pricing. The Civic hatchback has a starting price of $19,700. It is more expensive than a standard LX sedan but it has so many more features. Its turbo-charged engine, amazing exterior, and added features make the higher price point well worth it.

Models. The car has five variants: LX, Sport, EX, EX-L Navi, and Sport Touring. The six-speed manual is only available on LX and Sport models. The Sport and Sport Touring models can make 180 horsepower.

The Sport and Sport Touring are lighter compared to the other models. They weigh less by nearly 200 lbs. making them faster and more aerodynamic.

Verdict. There is a reason why the America has been wanting the Honda Civic hatchback to return. It's sporty, fun, functional, and packs a turbocharged engine. Car enthusiasts and racers will love this car.
