At CES 2017, MSI has launched more than 30 brand-new motherboards specifically manufactured to work well with Intel Kaby Lake processor. Lurking somewhere in the corner, a couple of motherboards are also featured, known to be the first desktop AM4 boards to suit the highly anticipated AMD Ryzen processors and the Bristol Ridge APUs.
It was also reported that AMD announced just announced a handful of AM4 motherboards hours after the Intel Kaby Lake boards were revealed. That said, the scene at CES 2017 made PC enthusiasts delighted as AMD Ryzen boards go pound-for-pound with Intel Kaby Lake boards.
AMD Ryzen Motherboards
The MSI X370 Xpower Gaming Titanium for the AMD Ryzen, taking the name from the AM4 X370 chipsets, mimics its Intel Kaby Lake rival board Titanium Z270. The board has lots of first-time features, from DDR4 RAM support to a Game Boost Button, all of which overclocks the game's performance. The AMD Ryzen board also supports M.2 and U.2 solid state drives, holds up to three GPUs, USB 3.0 ports, and a lot more similar features.
Another AMD board is the MSI B350 Tomahawk, a toned-down B350 chipset specifically redesigned for Bristol Ridge APUs. With that said, some features will be lacking. It will not have a U.2 slot and it can only fit one M.2 solid state drive as opposed to the Titanium, which can have two. It is also important to note that Bristol Ridge APUs are only available on pre-built systems.
Intel Kaby Lake Motherboards
A number of Intel Kaby Lake motherboards went on display at MSI's booth. Although there were only a portion of the whole 30 plus boards, the ones present on the show were still overwhelming. MSI displayed them by categories, according to their respective series and models.
MSI Enthusiast Gaming series cram in all the bells and whistles gamers would love to have. Starting off with exotic SSDs, to a manual button for gaming performance boost, to Game Boost to superior heat sinks, gamers surely can't wait to have this bad-ass motherboard. On top of that, gamers can plug in up to 3 or 4 graphics cards.
Going down to a lower tier, Performance Gaming series pack most of the MSI Enthusiast level boards but will be missing some features. However, this tier makes up for it with their awesome styles. Another set of boards is called the business-centric models. As the name speaks for itself, the purpose of these boards is for everyday computing. The PC specifications are similar to the Performance Gaming series with some deductions.
