NASCAR had a pretty successful season in 2016 along with a lot of good finishes. Now that it's 2017, a look back to the awesome year is due. The 2016 NASCAR season has witnessed drivers who won for the first time in their entire careers. The year 2016 has also witnessed a seven-time champion and at the same time, a retirement from one of the greats. The following are the top finishes for NASCAR 2016.

This would be a premonition of what NASCAR fans would be spectating at Richmond later on in the season. But it would be Kevin Harvick who would try to defend the top place versus Carl Edwards. Edwards did his best on the race and in the last turn, pulled off to be first at the Phoenix International Raceway.

Carl Edwards is at it again as he catches up on Kyle Busch as the laps go by during one of the regular afternoon races held at the Richmond International Raceway. At the last turn, Busch got bumped by Edwards and as a result, the former lost his lead. Edwards then picked up the win and ensured a back-to-back victory for NASCAR 2016 season. A report at NASCAR says that Busch wasn't happy about it, but ultimately accepted his fate as bumping is part of the race.

Rookies Chase Elliot and Kyle Larson could either have their first victories but veteran Matt Kenseth shattered that goal. 35 lapse of intense bumper-to-bumper racing, Kenseth - a.k.a. Monster Mile definitely showed everyone what a good NASCAR race is.

NASCAR Top 5 Best Finishes of 2016: Daytona 500

First-time winner, Denny Hamlin, has finally bagged a Daytona 500 trophy. This was achieved in a close race as Hamlin edges Martin Truex Jr. by .010 seconds in the season opening. This also marks Daytona 500's closest finish in its entire existence. It was a great way to start NASCAR 2016.

Hamlin said that he never expected to win the race when the white flag was waved for the final lap. He only thought about how close the race was. He only assumed that he won when he heard people going crazy over radio communication, FoxSports.com reports.

NASCAR Top 5 Best Finishes of 2016: Sonoma

Bumping the race leader Denny Hamlin out of the way to score the final Sprint Cup Series victory was Tony Stewart. This last lap at Sonoma was considered one of the best of NASCAR 2016. Stewart earned a spot in the Sprint Cup's Chase as a result. Moreover, this broke his losing streak of eight for the year.
