Dell XPS 13 Convertible Laptop for Windows 10 at CES 2017: Specs, Intel Kaby Lake, Pricing, and Availability

The Dell XPS 13 is one of the best Windows 10 laptops in the market. Dell has made it even better. It is now a 2-in-1 convertible laptop.

The CES 2017 trade show is only a few days away, but Dell couldn't wait to tell the world about its new device. The XPS 13 2-in-1 convertible laptop will have ultra-thin bezels, amazing battery life, improved portability, and even more attractive features than its predecessor. Its main competitors will be the Lenovo Yoga, the HP Spectre x360, and other similar 2-in-1 devices.

Features. The new convertible laptop is not intended as a replacement of the current Dell XPS. It will coexist together with the original Dell XPS 13. The 2in1 notebook  still retains similar features to the original. It will still have the same small bezels, aluminum lid, carbon fiber interior, and decent battery life.

The new Dell is similar to the original XPS 13 but with added features. For one, the laptop has a larger and more centrally-located camera. In addition, the new 2in1 notebook will feature two steel hinges on its back which will allow the screen to rotate all the way.

The device is also more compact. It has a thickness of just over half an inch and weighs only 2.7 pounds. The device also has a fanless design, making it quieter.

Unlike the Microsoft Surface Book, the screen is not detachable. It can only be rotated to serve as either a laptop or tablet. Moreover, the Dell XPS 13 does not have a receding keyboard like the Lenovo Yoga laptops. However, the XPS 13 will automatically turn off once its display is rotated at an angle of 180 degrees or more.

The new Dell will also feature Windows Hello, which is Microsoft's fast login feature. A Windows Hello-enabled fingerprint reader support will already be available. The infrared camera for Windows Hello will be available later. The laptop will also feature Windows 10 and it will feature Intel's Kaby Lake.

Availability and Pricing. The Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 convertible laptop will officially be available on January 5 on Dell's website and Best Buy in the United States. The base model with start at $999 and will feature an Intel Core i5-7Y54 chipset, 1080p display, 4 GB of RAM, and 128 GB of internal storage.

There will also be a $1,199 variant which features 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage. There are also other upgrade options for more resolution, a Core i7-7Y75 chip, up to 16 GB or RAM, and up to 1TB of internal storage.

The XPS 13 2in1 notebook  is a great addition to the current roster of convertible laptops and devices. With CES 2017 in just a few short days, laptop lovers can be sure to expect even newer and innovate pieces of tech this year.
