2017 Toyota Highlander Review: The Perfect Family Car

The 2017 Toyota Highlander is a three-row Toyota SUV with a sporty look. It is the perfect well-rounded family friendly vehicle.

Pros and Features. Both the 2017 Highlander's exterior and interior are the ideal size for most families. The SUV has standard high-tech safety features and is a quiet and compliant ride. The Toyota SUV features a strong V6 engine with improved fuel economy.

Cons. The Highlander's third-row seats are not as roomy as some of its' competitors. While the car features a touchscreen and other state-of-the-art controls, they may require a longer reach. The base model only comes with an undesirable four-cylinder engine.

What's New? The 2017 Toyota Highlander models have a number of significant mid-cycle changes. It has updated styling, a larger and more pronounced grille, and redesigned LED taillights.

The V6 engine is also new. It boasts more power and better fuel economy, as well as an eight-speed transmission and an automatic stop-start button system. The Toyota Safety Sense technology suite is also an added content feature. The SE trim level also features new sporty styling elements as well as a retuned suspension for sharper handling.

Models. There are 6 models to choose from: LE, LE Plus, XLE, SE, Limited and Limited Platinum. The base model LE only has a four-cylinder engine. This means it is much slower and less fuel efficient than the well-equipped and fully-loaded models with the V6 engines.

The LE Plus, XLE, SE, Limited, and Limited Platinum are all capable of the V6 engine. Of all the models, the LE Plus is the most recommended for its V6 engine, power liftgate, and tri-zone automatic climate control. The XLE, Limited, and Limited Platinum models all feature extra luxury feature content. The SE has most unique styling and features a sportier driving dynamics.

Pricing. The basic model LE 4dr SUV AWD (3.5L 6cyl 8A) has an MSRP of $35,080. The well-equipped model SE 4dr SUV (3.5L 6cyl 8A) has an MSRP of $40,630. The fully-loaded XLE 4dr SUV AWD (3.5L 6cyl 8A) has an MSRP of $40,920.

Verdict. Overall, the 2017 Toyota Highlander is a magnificent automobile. The Toyota SUV has a lot of room for medium to large sized families and features state-of-the-art technology. It also has a sportier exterior compared to most family cars.
