Chrysler Portal Concept Got BMW I3 Looks With Tesla Model S Electric Range

The Chrysler Portal Concept will be presented at the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show this week. Far from being the usual electric sedan or crossover, the American firm has opted for a prototype minivan with millennials in mind. Many also say it got BMW I3's looks with Tesla Model S technology and electric range.

CES 2017 officially kicks off today and marks the reveal of impressive new gadgets, technology as well as electric and self-driving cars. In the case of the FCA group that is said to launch a new Infotainment system jointly developed by Google and Android, more details have been unveiled. Today, Chrysler has revealed more - an interesting concept that has been prepared specifically for this event, the Chrysler Portal Concept.

The Chrysler Portal Concept has a utility of very compact dimensions and a vanguard profile typical of a small minivan. The exterior is dominated by angled lines wherein the doors and pillars form optical groups. Since the car has a very technological and futuristic look, it is said to target the millennials, according to DigitalTrends. Its visuals seem to follow BMW i3 and even its compatriot, Chevrolet Bolt EV.

The Chrysler Portal Concept also features an electric mechanism that allows its owner to reach 400 kilometers in pure electric, with package batteries of 100 kWh. It also boasts a rapid charging system (less than 20 minutes) and is able to recharge soon enough to be able to travel another 240 kms.

Now here comes the most important part of the Chrysler Portal Concept: First, one can find a tremendously modern interior. The dashboard doesn't have any buttons and it consists of three large screens positioned centrally in the upper area. The center console has a large multifunction touch screen with a solitary command. More interestingly, one can find a steering wheel without a ring as it has two lateral supports in the purest style of a joystick.

Last but not the least, the Chrysler Portal Concept has a self-driving capability with level 3 autonomy, according to TechCrunch. This means that it can automatically drive itself in open roads. Watch the interesting Chrysler Portal Concept in the video below.
