'Inhumans" News: Marvel Franchise Finally Gets A Release Date, Extra Details Of The IMAX-Shot TV Show Revealed

Marvel's "Inhumans" skyrocketed to the spotlight of the comic book giant's cinematic universe after an announcement was made that it would be getting special treatment: Not only will the upcoming TV series be shot completely on IMAX, a Marvel first, but it will also premiere its first two episodes in IMAX theaters before becoming a mainstay on ABC.

According to Comicbook, a THR report just unveiled that Inhumans will have its television debut on Sept. 26 of next year and have a total of eight weekly episodes in the first series. This would mean the "Inhumans" finale will air on Nov. 14, 2017, a Tuesday. This is in addition to the theatrical premiere, which is set for release earlier in September of 2017. The episodes that debut in film, which were shot in large screen format, will not be completely identical to the "Inhumans" TV episodes. According to Collider, the television Inhumans episodes will carry additional content and bonus action sequences, all shot on IMAX cameras.

Greg Foster, CEO of IMAX, provided further details, saying that the film premiere of Marvel's "Inhumans" will be 80 minutes, or almost the length of a full-length feature. Foster added that it would be screened throughout all territories on or near the 1st of September for two weeks. Foster said, on behalf of IMAX, that the company was hoping for a resounding success that would open the door to additional seasons of Marvel's "Inhumans," as well as deals to create other IMAX-shot television shows. Foster confirmed they were already looking at other opportunities to replicate the unique venture it has with Marvel.

The TV series will be centered on Marvel Comics' royal family characters. But despite being a relatively unknown part of the Marvel Universe, both Marvel and IMAX seem to be holding out high hopes. In fact, Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." recently moved to a 10 p.m. timeslot on Tuesdays, which may be providing The Inhumans with an opening to become a primetime, flagship series when it finally airs next September.
