Volkswagen Electric Cars: What We Know So Far

Should Tesla be worried? As known carmakers ventured into producing electric cars, the market will surely benefit from a wide range of choices --- including Volkswagen, which is currently working on its electric vehicle lineup.

Reports say that Volkswagen will venture into selling electric cars by 2021. But the company is already moving towards achieving that goal as early as today. The carmaker is allegedly following a global roadmap, which interestingly coincides with the auto trend: electric cars.

To execute the company's dream of producing fully electric vehicles, Volkswagen launched the MEB platform, according to a report. To showcase the company's dedication to this cause, the carmaker is also expected to fund the project incessantly --- in order to develop a new breed of batteries and storage system that will ensure highly competitive electric cars.

Since electric cars are starting to proliferate, the competition will boil down to the best carmaker that can produce the most effective and efficient battery system. This is where Volkswagen is focusing. Aside from that, VW is reportedly working on its autonomous vehicle features. This is one of the current trends required from a leading carmaker in the industry today.

Volkswagen will also produce a line of electric cars composed of two versions that will roll out in 2020. By 2025, the company is expected to debut a new batch that will include a wider range of crossovers, SUVs, and hatchbacks.

To leap ahead of the competition, the company should focus on the buying power of larger population sectors like the middle class --- especially now that VW is still trying to recover from the alleged "Dieselgate" scandal, where they agreed to pay about $15 million of fines, according to a report on iTechpost.

Experts say that although Tesla and other electric carmakers are miles away in terms of lead in the electric car making industry, it is never too late for any car company --- including VW to venture into the scene.

With the promise of more advanced systems and potentially more powerful battery technologies, consumers will greatly benefit from Volkswagen's electric car range that is set to rollout a few years from now.
