Jaguar I-Pace First Battery-Powered Electric Vehicle Revealed At 2016 LA Motor Show

Jaguar, the big cat in the motor industry, is making history in its brand for it first-ever battery-powered electric vehicle - the I-PACE. As reported by Business Insider, Ian Callum, Jaguar design director, said that the I-PACE is not just a concept. It is a preview of a five-seater SUV that would be available in 2018. This car is expected to make history for the brand when it comes out a couple of years from now.

I-PACE would be the first entrant in the all-electric compact SUV segment as a luxury car, claimed by Jaguar Land Rover North America CEO Joe Eberhardt.

The chassis of the I-PACE is specially made for a battery electric vehicle and is also developed for its non-internal combustion powertrain. The cabin is pushed forward to increase the interior space and to give the driver better road visibility. Aside from the exterior design, this car offers impressive stats, a liquid-cooled 90kWh battery pack that powers a 200 hp electric motors that is placed on each axle. I-PACE is an all-wheel-drive car without the need of the bulky drive shafts.

I-PACE can go 300 miles in just one charge and is also capable of reaching 60mph in just 4.0 seconds. The car is also equipped with a 400 horsepower motor and 516 lb./ft. of torque on tap. The Lithium-Ion batteries uses pouch cells for  their energy density and efficiency and it also sits low in the car to give the SUV a better center of gravity which is 120mm lower than the F-PACE. The SUV's battery pack can be fully charged in about 2 hours using a 50kW DC fast charging charger. Much of the hardware was derived from the F-PACE SUV as well as the double-wishbone front suspension and the compact Integral Link rear suspension.

The car is about 50mm shorter, 90mm lower, and 40mm narrower than the F-PACE, its wheelbase is 115mm longer which means that there is more room inside. Jaguar stated that the SUV got 10mm more knee room than the BMW 7 series, according to Auto Express

Callum, Jaguar's design director, and his team made a stunning and innovative design basing it from the 2010's  C-X75 concept. The director also stated that designers are looking forward for electric cars for a long time because they can make different things that you cannot do to a internal combustion engine car. The innovation of man is really unstoppable, as Jaguar is now making its way to its electric cars, will they be the leading electric car manufacturer in the future?
