Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) is designed and Produced by Volkswagen Group as a turbo diesel engine that features turbocharging and cylinder-direct fuel injection. The said device is being bombarded with its legality under the European Law. Volkswagen said that the software allowing its diesel vehicles to evade emissions rules does not violate European law, Volkswagen group is aiming to strengthen its legal defenses to opposing the possible compensation claims in Europe.

According to Car and Driver, the majority affected vehicles registered of the rigged cars in Europe where the European Commission has been raising the pressure on the carmaker. Volkswagen Group admitted to manipulating the diesel emissions test in the U.S more than a year ago and is offering cash payouts to U.S. drivers.  The European Commission is urging the German Group to compensate, financially, the affected 8 million TDI users around Europe.

As stated in the European Law, where carmakers are allowed to use software where it increases emissions beyond limits by arguing that the said software would give the engine more durability and would protect the engine from harm. The technicality of this law is where the Volkswagen Group is banking on the legality of their Turbocharged Direct Injection. This means that TDI is legal in Europe, technically.

The Germany Federal Environmental Agency's views on the negative effect of nitrogen oxide to human health and the environment are also being denied by the German group. 

Although the Volkswagen Group believes that their Turbocharged Direct Injection software is legal in Europe, the group would still refit the affected cars for the reason of goodwill. Volkswagen Group would like their customers to cooperate constructively with the regulators and also with the Federal Motor Authority, according to Fortune.

Volkswagen stands as an icon in the motor industry for innovation and creativity, but would this new software that they produce make a stain on the company's innovation? Will the German Group continue to manufacture the questioned software?
