'Final Fantasy 7' Remake Finally On Its Way, With One Big Change!

The long-awaited Final Fantasy 7 Remake of the original 1997 game has triggered healthy amounts of excitement and speculation from longtime fans, and news of a whole new combat system is adding fuel to the fire. The new system's most glaring change may be giving players less control during battles in favor of greater action.

It was earlier announced that the remake will forego the original turn-based principles of "Final Fantasy 7" in place of a quicker-paced system. During an interview with Dengeki PlayStation, Director Tetsuya Nomura dished about the combat system in light of different direction producers have taken to the game's battles.

In the original, players could move across a battlefield and control the movements of all three characters currently in battle. A majority of action-heavy games however only allow the player to control one character at a time, the compromise "Final Fantasy 7's" remake might need to make in order to fulfill the creators' vision.

A trailer for the upcoming remake seemed to confirm this would be the case, as Ecumenical News reported that it displayed players having to alternate between Cloud and Barrett during a battle. It hasn't been confirmed yet, but such a change to the party-based mechanic's fans have grown to know would definitely be dramatic.

In other "Final Fantasy 7" news, Movie News Guide reported that rumors revolving around Cloud Strife and Sephiroth engaging in battle in the remake are untrue. Sephiroth will reportedly have a reduced role in the remake.

The remake is being produced and published by Square Enix and coming to new consoles such as the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 Pro, reported Yibada. It will center on Cloud Strife and the Avalanche's fight against the Shinra Corp. and is likely to be released early 2017 in time for the game's two-decade anniversary.
