Completing Audi's second-generation A5 family, the German automaker revealed photographs of the 2018 A5 Cabriolet ahead of its first scheduled appearance at the 2016 Los Angeles auto show on Nov. 14. At the show, spectators will be treated to the soft-top four-seater Cabriolet in both regular and S5 trim, Car and Driver reported.

Designed as a faster, lighter and more technologically advanced car than previous models, the Cabriolet is Audi's answer to the BMW 4-series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class cars. This is the carmaker's last installment in its second-generation A5, earlier unveiling the two-door A5 coupe and four-door A5 Sportback.

Deviating from its elder siblings, the Cabriolet has a new fabric top that can open in 15 seconds, with the simple pull of a switch, at speeds of 50 km/h (31mph) and close in 18 seconds at the same speed. The roof also features added insulation to remove disturbances like traffic and wind noise.

The sleek new Cabriolet will be sold with a 252 horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder paired with a seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission.

The German carmaker said the Cabriolet weighs a significant 88 pounds less than previous models because of its newly developed MLB Evo architecture. Seeming to defy this, the new models are actually bigger: The overall length of the Carbiolet grew 1.9 inches longer, while the wheelbase is 0.6 inches larger than the car's predecessors.

The new A5's trunk space is equally generous, with an expandable 13.4 cubic feet of storage with the roof down. The Carbiolet's interior follows suit, with notably more spacious rear legroom and front shoulder room. The car's technological prowess manifests in small but innovative inside finishes: Head-up display, a digital instrument cluster, and seatbelt microphones for voice activation that work even with the roof off.

The A5 Cabriolet will begin making its showroom rounds by the summer of 2017.
