NASCAR Suspends Allmendinger for Failed Drug Test

Driver A.J. Allmendinger was temporarily suspended by NASCAR for failing a random drug test.

Allmendinger saw the biggest break of his career this season for the Penske Racing, but the organization is withholding judgement until NASCAR's system completes the formalities.

"You know it's a disappointment at this particular time, but we're going to wait and see what the second test results are before we make any comment or decision. I don't think it's fair to him," Roger Penske, team owner for Penske Racing, told reporters.

It has yet to been seen where the 30-year-old driver would land his career once the final judgement comes from NASCAR authorities.

"I think if you look at sports, things like this happen, it's unfortunate, but I don't want to really make a statement pro or con right now," Penske said. "I'm counting on the test being proper for his within 72 hours, and at that point they'll make a decision."

As per the standard procedures of NASCAR, there is no second test to be conducted for Allmendinger, who was randomly summoned on June 29 in Kentucky.

When NASCAR officials followed the guidelines, the urine sample provided by Allmendinger failed the test. NASCAR hasn't revealed what Allmendinger tested positive for and the driver has yet to make a public statement about the issue.
