Mazda RX-9 Arrives By 2020 And Comes With The Popular Rotary Engine

If all goes as planned, Mazda could have in three years ready the commercial launch of the Mazda RX-9, a sport car based on the Mazda RX-Vision shown at the Tokyo Motor Show 2015.

Like previous RX, it would have the infamous powerful rotary engine as a trademark.

The increase in restrictions on emissions accounted for full stop of the RENESIS rotary engine used until 2010 in the Mazda RX-8. Since then, Mazda executives claimed to have no such vehicle or engine into product plans will have it in the immediate future:

However, people are requesting for the rotary engine to come back. The rotary engine is also important and that explains why Mazda, in fact, has never abandoned the idea of continuing with the evolution of the RX series . And there is the concept car RX-Vision to prove it .

The evolution of this engine is a challenge for Mazda, assumed by the CEO, Masamichi Kogai, in presenting the SKYACTIV strategy, has served to restore brand's name with a convincing and compelling range of cars and SUVs like the Mazda 3 , Mazda 6 and Mazda CX-3, it Is also crucial to offer some differentiation capacity with which to attract customers.

That is the role of the Mazda RX-9, because although rotary engines appeared far from the specifications requirements of production models, the fact is that Mazda has always maintained some development activity by their engineers around them in order to improve efficiency, reduce emissions and solve their problems of reliability.

With the assignment of the official name SKYACTIV-R for engine Mazda RX-9 working over the past eight years, 2020 seems to be the date chosen by the board of Mazda to formally approve both the design and engineering of future Mazda RX-9. And in 2020, which also happened to be Mazda's centenary celebration, the Mazda RX-9 will be showcased in Tokyo.

So far, we know that the Mazda RX-9 will have a displacement of 1.6 liters and with two rotors and thanks to the turbocharger, could reach 400 hp; very much above the 231 hp maximum, obtained 1.3 engine of its predecessor Mazda RX-8. Among its technical refinements will be the Homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI), a resource that substantially limits some of the emissions, the Achilles heel of the rotary engine
