General Motors to expand Maven to Boston, Chicago and Washington

General Motors Co. is set to widen up their car-sharing service to other states of US after they've started it this year. GM assures that the service will be available to people of Boston, Chicago and Washington within the year.

According to Reuters, after four months since the service has started, the auto giant is expecting to provide more to the customers by expanding the car-sharing service Maven. General Motors is known to have introduced the service already in Chicago where they have 30 cars being rented at 15 sites in Chicago. The basic charge is $8 per hour in which the gas and insurance are already covered. The service is set to be seen in Washington and Boston this summer.

Notably, USA Today reported that many automakers, including the GM, have released many ride-sharing pilot services in different cities but GM extended their efforts by proving a $500 million investment in Lyft, which is the second largest car service provider after Uber. Then, GM proceeded to hire assets and 20 employees from Sidecar, which was a failed San Francisco ride-sharing service and closed at the end of 2015.

Chicago Express Drive, partnered with Lyft, has started their service in March that allowed to individuals to rent Chevrolet Equinox for $99 a week. After merely eight weeks, the service went on to have 200 cars available.

Back to Maven, the car sharing service started in Ann Arbor in which there are now 35 cars scattered across 20 sites. GM's Maven City will be downloadable in any app store available in each phone. The app gives access to the user to rent a car in a designated location while a Maven + service is set to launch too. The Maven + service is another tool to rent in which the vehicle will be brought to the user's exact place. Maven's car-sharing service ranges from $6 - $12 per hour depends on location and site.
