High-tech SUVs Take The Lead During 2016 Beijing Auto Show

The 2016 Beijing Auto Show may be almost over, but one of the best highlights of the event was a mini competition between noted auto makers from all over the world. The vehicles in the spotlight? High-tech SUVs.

Auto makers like Honda, as well as China brand Great Wall Motors, surprised audiences when these companies unveiled top-of-the-line SUVs for the event, according to CBC Canada. The Beijing Auto Show started last Monday, and new models from Chinese car maker Chery Tiggo 7 plus the Honda Avancier SUV opened the event.

Media circuits have since reported that local auto makers in China selling compact and mid-size models were behind the rising segment at the Chinese auto industry with high SUV sales. This goes to show that it could be the dawn of the SUVs, with its increasing popularity.

Because of China's known rough terrain and crowded roads owing to its burgeoning population, sport utility vehicles are fast becoming a preferred choice of transport. Established SUV brands like Honda are among one of those makers who have placed their hold in this aspect of the automotive business. Honda's Acura CDX SUV was part of the Beijing Auto Show's launch ceremony last Monday and was followed by Great Wall Motor's Haval SUVs (Hovers).

SUVs made up about a third of China's vehicle sales last 2015, and experts were quick to point that the figures could go higher, while minivans and sedans hit it rough on sales, as per the news agency.

GM global product development EVP Mark Reuss also agrees, reports CNBC. Reuss said that as the SUV market in China stays strong, there would be a continuous surging demand for these vehicles. SUV concept cars were also introduced during the event by global brands like Mercedes-Benz, Ford, Volkswagen, however details on the mass production of their high-tech releases were yet to be announced.
