Chevy Introduces OnStar Theft Alarm Notification To Fight Car Thieves

Car thieves beware, Chevy has just changed the game for good.

The American automobile division of GM has announced a new feature using OnStar called "Theft Alarm Notification." All eligible OnStar subscribers will have the benefit of this service, which will call, text or email the user if their car is stolen, according to PC Magazine

Theft Alarm notification adds on to OnStar's already impressive features to impede car thieves. In certain models, OnStar has the ability to track, slow, or disable a car that's stolen with the Stolen Vehicle Assistance service, according to Car and Driver.

Drivers will need a subscription to the Security or Guidance package in order to receive the Theft Alarm Notification. Most Chevy models from 2014 and newer are equipped to offer this service, Digital Trends reported.

Chevy plans to make Theft Alarm Notification available in North America by the end of the summer, Car and Driver reported. GM has been improving its OnStar system in general as of late, recently adding the feature of prognostic vehicle data, the capability of tracking driver's habits for insurance purposes, and allowing retailers to send coupons and services.
