Air Bag Troubles: 2,580 2015 Hyundai Accent Vehicles Recalled to Protect Kids

The Issue:

Hyundai is recalling 2015 Accent vehicles made between September 2014 and February 2015 over a software issue.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the issue is linked to a problem with the air bag occupant detection system, which might not accurately determine if a child's restraint seat is in the front passenger seat in cold temperatures.

The Fix:

Hyundai dealers are being told to update the Accent's air bag occupant detection system software, free of charge to customers.

Injuries or Accidents:

No accidents or injuries have been linked to the recall yet.

Recall Date:

The recall will begin on June 5, so owners can expect to receive their notices sometime next month.

Number of Models Affected:

Approximately 2,580 vehicles are affected by the recall in the U.S. and its territories.

Who to call?

Owners with more questions can contact Hyundai's customer service line at 855-671-3059. The recall number is 129.
