2014 Chevrolet Malibu Earns Five-Star Safety Rating From NHTSA

General Motors has announced that its updated 2014 Chevrolet Malibu recently earned the top five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The Malibu is on sale now at local Chevy dealerships, according to the automaker.

Safecar.gov confirmed that the Malibu earned a five-star rating in the NHTSA's frontal crash test, a five-star rating in the side crash test and a four-star rating in the rollover crash test, according to the website.

"Safety is an increasingly important consideration for new vehicle buyers, especially for those in the midsize segment," said Gay Kent, GM director of vehicle safety and crashworthiness, in a press statement.

The Malibu competes with similar vehicles like the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, and Volkswagen Passat.

Standard safety features on the Malibu includes 10 airbags, like knee airbags for the driver and front passenger, according to GM.

"The customer is at the center of our day-to-day operations and when we design vehicles, it's their safety that we have in mind," said Kent.

The Malibu earned a "Good" ratings in every category test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
