Arrowhead Death: Homicide Ruled by Medical Examiners, Could Take Weeks to Figure Out What Happened (VIDEO)

The death of a Missouri man in an Arrowhead Stadium parking lot this weekend during a Kansas City Chief's game has been ruled a homicide, according to the Associated Press.

It could take weeks before police know what killed Kyle Van Winkle, 30, of Smithville, M.O., however.

Van Winkle was found "unconscious" on the ground when police responded to a call at around 5:20 p.m. on Dec. 1 in Lot A at Truman Sports Complex.

He supposedly left the stadium early in the game and went to the parking lot, where he was seen entering a Jeep that looked like the same vehicle he came to the game in, according to Kansas City police spokesman Tye Grant.

The owner of the Jeep found Van Winkle and the two were seen arguing and fighting by nearby tailgaters.

Dean Van Winkle, Kyle's father, said to The Kansas City Star this week that his son left his seat to go to the restroom but did not return. He said Kyle "didn't appear to be intoxicated or ill when he left," according to AP.

"He collapsed during the struggle and was found to be not breathing," Kansas City police spokesman Tye Grant said. "That's when a person at the scene began doing CPR on him."

The Jackson County medical examiner's ruling doesn't change how local police are handing the case, according to police spokesman Darin Snapp.

"Detectives have been working the case as a homicide from the beginning, so the investigation will not change," Snapp said, according to AP.

Van Winkle was taken to a hospital shortly after police arrived, where he was pronounced dead. Results from a medical examiner aren't expected for another four to six weeks.
