2015 Ford Mustang Unveiled, Set for Its First Global Release (SLIDESHOW)

Almost 50 years after launching its first Mustang, Ford has unveiled a brand new pony car that will be sold globally for the first time ever.

Ford executives, including CEO Alan Mulally, will be appearing at debuts all across the world today in locations like: Barcelona, Dearborn, Los Angeles, Michigan, New York, Shanghai, and Sydney, according to Reuters.

The new model features a unique trapezoid grille and new suspension system for better handling and a lower, longer stance.

The base model comes with a 3.7-liter V-6 with around 300 hp.

A 2.3 liter turbocharged engine option will also be made available by the automaker. The 2015's new chassis allowed designers to lower the roof 1.5 inches, the dashboard 2.8 inches, and the hood 1.3 inches.

The 2015 model will be the first Mustang sold in Europe and Asia. Most sales are expected to come from North America, but Ford has high-hopes the 2015 model will be a big-seller overseas as well.

"We kept seeing them show up even though we don't sell them in China, Australia and other places," Joe Hinrichs, Ford's head of North and South America, said at the Los Angeles Auto Show last month. "People (are) figuring out a way to get it into the country, even though it's not sold there, which tells you something."

Hal Sperlich, the chief architect of the original Ford Mustang, isn't so sure the new model will do well over in Europe however.

"I'm not sure this will sell well in Europe, where gasoline is close to 10 bucks a gallon," he said. "A $50,000 Mustang with a V8 engine probably isn't going to have a significant impact there."

The General Motors produced Chevrolet Camaro is outselling the current Mustang during the first 11 months of 2013. Sales for the pony car were down 7.7 percent to 71,459 during that time period, according to Reuters.

The first Mustang was introduced back at the New York World's Fair on April 17, 1964. The vehicle was then featured on the covers of Newsweek and Time magazine and was purchased by over half a million customers in 1965.

The 2015 Mustang won't go on sale until next year. An official release date has not been revealed by Ford yet.
