A Walmart in Apopka, Florida got a visit from a surprise guest this week after a 6-foot-long alligator was seen crawling through the front door, according to the Associated Press.
The incident took place on the morning of Oct. 20.
The gator walked into the store and stopped in the entryway, causing the automatic doors to open and close until Walmart employees locked them.
Local police officers tried to lure the alligator away from the store, but had a hard time since many customers gathered to watch and take pictures, according to CBS affiliate WKMG.
"Our main concern was keeping the people safe," said officer Steven Popp.
The store stayed open throughout the incident.
The gator ran off and headed into the nearby woods, and shortly after police called a trapper to handle the gator.
No one was injured during the incident, according to the Associated Press.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said to ABC News that the alligator had been located and was being kept in a retention pond not far from the store.
The FWC issued a permit for the alligator to be caught earlier today, Oct 22, and it will likely be put down, according to Karen Parker, a spokeswoman for the FWC.
"He'll be put down, unfortunately," said Karen Parker, a spokeswoman for the FWC. "It looks like he has lost the fear of people, and we don't want to take the chance of him hurting anybody."
