iPhone 6 Release Date, Rumors: Apple Settles on 5-Inch Screen for New Device?

Apple has supposedly settled on a screen size for its next iPhone device, according to a rumor released by ETNews.com.

The report claims Apple's next smartphone, believed to be the iPhone 6, will come with a 5-inch screen. The company has been testing screen sizes that range from 4.8 and 6 inches according to the Wall Street Journal.

Apple has yet to confirm the size of its next device, but a 5-inch screen seems like a good guess for now as the iPhone 6 will likely compete with other smartphones with large screen sizes.

A 5-inch screen would clearly put the iPhone 6 in the same screen-size range as the Galaxy S4, HTC One, and similar smartphones.

The only drawback to the bigger screen size is Apple will risk losing customers who don't want a smartphone with a large screen.

Though popular, the Samsung Galaxy S3 and S4 have been criticized for being too big to carry around by many tech experts. This is likely the reason Apple will ultimately not go with a 6-inch device.

"Our teams are hard at work on some amazing new hardware, software, and services that we can't wait to introduce this fall and throughout 2014," said Tim Cook at a recent earnings call with investors, according to the International Business Times.

Other rumors that have been mentioned by many sites for the next iPhone includes solar charging, a 128 GB option, a 12 MP rear camera, and a larger quad core processor.

The iPhone 6 is expected to be released sometime in 2014. Many rumors have indicated the device will come between January and March 2014 since the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, released last month, were not significant upgrades compared to the iPhone 5.
