Chrysler Recalls 33,000 Vans, SUVs for Tire Pressure Issues

Chrysler is recalling 33,443 vehicles in two actions to upgrade tire pressure monitor systems in Ram ProMaster vans, Jeep Wrangler SUVs and Dodge Grand Caravan/Chrysler Town & Country minivans.

The automaker is not aware of any accidents, injuries or deaths in connection with either recall, Chrysler said in a press release.

The first announcement affects 23,053 Ram ProMaster full-size commercial vans from model year 2014, which need a software update to monitor tire pressure properly, Reuters reported. Without the software fix, the system's warning light can essentially "cry wolf," warning drivers even when the tire pressure is fine and then failing them when it actually is too low.

For the second action, Chrysler is recalling 10,390 Jeep Wrangler SUVs and Dodge Grand Caravan/Chrysler Town & Country minivans, which are also from model year 2014. Dealerships will reconfigure a tire pressure monitor module.

The recalled vehicles have modules configured with test modes that were inadvertently left on when they were shipped from the supplier. Modules configured this way may fail to get accurate tire-pressure readings, potentially giving drivers false warnings when it comes to tire pressure.

Chrysler will contact affected owners next month to let them know when they can take their vehicles in for repairs. Customer service for the automaker can be reached at 1-800-853-1403.
