GM Recalls 2015 Chevy Corvette for Faulty Brakes, Air Bags

While the announcements have gotten smaller, beleaguered American automaker General Motors continues to announce recalls, with the latest affecting 872 Chevrolet Corvettes that have brake and air bag issues.

Comprising two separate actions, the announcement affects 783 Corvette sports cars that need repairs on the park brake installation and 89 Corvettes with driver air bags that can separate from the steering wheel, Edmunds.com reported.

"If the parking brake cable isn't fully seated and engaged on both of the rear park brake drums, the vehicle may roll away if parked on a steep gradient, increasing the risk of a crash," the NHTSA described the brake issue in its summary.

For the 89-vehicle recall, a module may fracture and allow the driver air bag to detach from the steering wheel.

GM is not aware of any accidents, injuries or deaths in connection with the recalled vehicles, which were manufactured from Aug. 20, 2014 to Sept. 4, 2014.

The automaker ordered a stop delivery on the 2015 Corvette last month.

Because "service procedure was released on September 29, more than half of those vehicles (57 percent) have been inspected and repaired as necessary," said GM spokesman Alan Adler, as quoted by Edmunds.

The Corvette air bag recall is scheduled to start on Monday. Owners will take their cars to Chevrolet dealers to have the driver's air bag replaced.

Following a recall for nearly 2.6 million small cars earlier this year, GM has called for repairs on around 40 million vehicles in a record year of U.S. recalls for automakers.
