Ford Focus Electric's Price Tag Has Been Reduced by a Quarter

Ford has slashed the price of its Focus Electric by $6,000 to $29,995, which includes shipping. Along with a $4,000 cut from a year ago, the Focus Electric's price has been reduced by a quarter, USA TODAY reported.

Focus Electric sales seem to be suffering from a crowded segment that pits the model against the Honda Fit, Fiat 500e, Chevrolet Spark and more. The American automaker sold 176,156 Focus cars through September, with consumers purchasing only 1,500 of the electric version.

"We hope by reducing the price, we will give more consumers another reason to consider it," said spokesman Aaron Miller, as quoted by USA TODAY.

Jalopnik noted that the reduced price for the Focus Electric doesn't even factor in a potential $7,500 federal tax incentive and possible local state tax credits, which will make the car even cheaper. Besides Tesla's popular but still pricey Model S, "every other EV on the market is either severely discounted or given away with lease deals that are basically money-losing nonsense," Jalopnik's Matt Hardigree wrote.

Most models in the Focus Electric's segment get around 100 miles per battery charge, while the Tesla Model S has an impressive EPA rating of 265 miles on a full battery.

Lower gas prices don't appear to be doing electric vehicle sales any favors either; buyers are reportedly turning back to trucks and SUVs as pump prices fall.
