2015 Chevrolet Camaro SS Preview: What to Expect Next Spring

The 2015 Chevrolet Camaro SS Special Edition will reach dealerships next spring, after a fan-based naming contest and the car's formal debut at the 2014 SEMA Shows in Las Vegas.

The limited-edition vehicle will be made for three months, starting this January, and GM will fill as many orders as it receives during that time, Chevrolet spokesman Monte Doran said to Edmunds.

Pricing will be announced sometime in January.

The Camaro SS will come available in convertible and coupe models, both with 2SS trim and exclusive Emerald Green Metallic paint.

Exterior features confirmed includes: 21-inch Chrome Dusk wheels, ground effects package, ZL1 rear spoiler, Cyber Gray rally stripes, and the RS Appearance package.

The power is provided by 6.2-liter V8 capable of 426 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque with the standard six-speed manual transmission, or 400 hp and 410 lb.-ft. of torque with the optional six speed automatic transmission.

Other options that will be available includes dual-mode exhaust, navigation system, sunroof and a Chevrolet Performance short-throw shifter.

The automaker is running a contest to give the vehicle a new name. Fans are welcome to submit suggestions at Chevy's Facebook or Twitter pages, by using the hashtag #NameThatCamaro.

"Chevrolet has made a tradition of offering special-edition models each spring, but this is the first time we've turned to the community of Camaro fans to name it," said Todd Christensen, Camaro marketing manager, in a statement. "We can't think of a better way to involve the owners and enthusiasts who have made it the segment's best-selling sports car for four years running."

No prize will be awarded to the contest winner, besides "the glory of naming a new Camaro model."
