A rare Porsche 918 Spyder supercar caught fire at a gas station in Caledon, Toronto recently, destroying most of the vehicle and damaging a fuel pump.
The aftermath of the incident was caught on video and posted online by a passing motorist.
The $845,000 car can be seen engulfed in flames in the video under the edge of the Esso gas station's canopy.
Caledon Fire Chief Dave Fofar said to FoxNews that the fire was a result of a refueling overflow issue.
There were no injuries and the fire was quickly put out with foam once firefighters reached the scene, according to CaledonEnterprise.com.
The car is owned and was being driven by Michael Wekerle, a Canadian financier and star of the CBC show "Dragon's Den," which is the Canadian version of ABC's "Shark Tank," according to CaledonEnterprise.com.
The new Dragon had been picked up on Sept. 3.
"He (the driver) was pumping gas and it overfilled and caught fire," said Suren Thanearajah who was working at the station Sunday and saw the situation unfold from inside the station, according to CaledonEnterprise.com.
The Spyer is a mid-engine plug-in hybrid that features exhaust pipes exiting above the engine, right next to the B-pillar mounted gas caps.
The 918 has 887 horsepower, a fuel economy rating equivalent to 67 mpg, and a top speed of 214 mph. Porsche will only build 918 of the vehicle, which might be a little more valuable after the fiery incident.
Porsche said it was concerned but couldn't comment until receiving more information about the incident.
"We are aware of media reports of a burning 918 Spyder at a gas station in the Toronto area," said Patrick Saint-Pierre, Manager, Public Relations for Porsche Cars Canada, Ltd. "Porsche is very concerned but cannot comment as we have no other source of information except these media reports at this time."
"We are first and foremost happy that apparently no injuries and other damage have resulted from the incident as reported," Saint-Pierre added. "Porsche is prepared to bring its technical resources to help all authorities who are investigating the matter."
