Walmart Cuts 16GB iPhone 5S, 5C Prices For 90-Sale

Walmart has announced an aggressive 90-day iPhone sale that cuts $20 off Apple's 16GB iPhone 5S and $28 off the 16GB iPhone 5C for a limited time.

In an attempt to move more inventory ahead of Apple's expected iPhone 6 debut, Walmart has initiated a fire sale on 16GB iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C devices when devices are purchased with a two-year contract, according to a report by Engadget.

Discounts are being applied to Walmart's recently lowered iPhone pricing, with the costs of a 16GB iPhone 5S dropping from $99 to $79 permanently. The 16GB iPhone 5C meanwhile sell for 97 cents, compared to its previous $29 price.

All sale pricing requires a two-year contract with Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, or U.S. Cellular, according to the report.

Apple will most likely debut its next iPhone device during a special medial event on Sept. 9.

The company is expected to unveil a 4.7-inch iPhone 6 device and a much-rumored 5.5-inch "phablet" like iPhone next month. The larger option may see its release date pushed back to as far as early 2015.

Rumored specs for the next iPhone includes: 1704 x 960 pixel resolution, a faster A8 processor, camera upgrades, and a more durable, sapphire screen.

Analyst Sun Chang Xu claims Apple wants to get a 2,100mAh battery into the final shipping product. Leaked production photos of the battery suggests it could have a capacity of around 1,440mAh however.

Apple has not announced any information regarding its next iPhone device.

If the company follows its normal launch schedule, Apple fans can expect the iPhone 6 to be released on Sept. 19.

Analyst Amit Daryanani currently forecasts sales of 56 million iPhones in the December quarter, according to a note sent to investors, though he said there is chance the company could send out 70 million units in a three-month span.

Last year, Apple sold approximately 60 million iPhones, mainly due to the release of the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, according to Reuters.
