New Infiniti QX60 Hybrid SUV Gets Better Mileage with More Room

The 2014 Infiniti QX60 Hybrid SUV has been rated at 26 miles per gallon for combined city and highway fuel economy by federal regulators, the Associated Press reported.

The gas-electric hybrid runs on a supercharged, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine matched with an electric motor and lithium-ion battery pack. It starts at $46,095, which is $3,000 more than the listing price for the non-hybrid 2014 QX60 SUV running on a 3.5-liter, gasoline V-6 engine.

The model's mileage ranks with the 2014 Honda CR-V and 2014 Toyota RAV4 SUVs, both of which are smaller than the roomy QX60 and its three rows of seats. The SUV boasts second-row legroom of 41.7 inches and 30.8 inches of legroom in the third row.

The report notes that buyers should be aware that the supercharged four-cylinder engine calls for premium gasoline, putting the tank's 19.5-gallon tank at around $75 to fill up.

When it comes to safety, the 2014 QX60 Hybrid earned five out of five possible stars on federal crash tests. The hybrid also has some nice extras included as standard thanks to its Infiniti name, which is Nissan's luxury brand.

Every QX60 Hybrid includes in the base trim features such as "leather-trimmed seats, three-zone, automatic climate control, power moonroof, heated front seats, rearview camera and power rear liftgate," according to the AP.

Additional safety options that are available for the hybrid include backup collision intervention, which automatically stops the car if sensors detect that the vehicle is about to back into something.

The AP report described the QX60 test SUV as "less than agile and a bit bulky in its handling" but noted that power delivery from the electric motor was smooth.
