10 Most Stolen Cars in America Named

Car thieves love Honda Accords, according to a new study by the National Insurance Crime Bureau.

The report, called "Hot Wheels," says that the Honda Accord is the most stolen car in America.

The Honda Civic is the second-most sought after vehicle by thieves in the U.S.

Other vehicles in the top ten according to the list includes: full-size Chevrolet, Ford and Dodge pickup trucks, the Toyota Camry, Dodge Caravan and Jeep Cherokee/Grand Cherokee.

Other popular vehicles with thieves are the Toyota Corolla and Nissan Altima, according to the report.

The 2013 Nissan Altima was the top 2013 model-year vehicle stolen last year, the report added. The 2013 Ford Fusion came in behind the Nissan Altima for 2013.

At least 53,995 Accords were stolen in 2013. Most of the stolen vehicles were models years 1997 or earlier.

There is a "50-50 split between domestic and import" vehicles on the list, according to the Crime Bureau.

The FBI predicted earlier this year that national vehicle thefts will drop to 3.2 percent for 2014.

The peak year for vehicle thefts took place in 1991, when 1661,738 were stolen.

New engine immobilizer systems that make it hard to start a vehicle without the ignition key have helped stop criminals from stealing newer models.

This means if you own an older Honda Accord, or any older vehicle for that matter, make sure you lock it up after exiting your vehicle.

The National Insurance Crime Bureau is a trade group for auto insurers and lenders.
