Suzuki Recalls 25,900 Verona Sedans for Fire Risk

Suzuki has announced a recall for 25,900 Verona sedans in the U.S. due to daytime running lights that pose an elevated fire risk.

The recall includes sedans from the 2004 to 2006 model years, Reuters reported. Federal regulators said the announcement is an expansion of a May recall that affected 184,244 Suzuki Forenza and Reno vehicles with the same problem.

The Verona, Forenza and Reno models were all manufactured in South Korea by General Motors, which recalled 284,000 Chevrolet small cars in May for similar running light issues.

2014 has been a massive year for recalls in the U.S. auto industry, which has announced repairs for a record 40 million vehicles so far.

GM's popular 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and the GMC Sierra pickups have become the most recalled vehicles this year after six recall announcements for the models, CNNMoney reported.

Since the two models arrived at dealerships 12 months ago, they have been recalled a total of nine times. Popular among buyers, the Silverado is GM's top seller in the U.S., while the Sierra stands as GMC's bestselling offering.

GM has been understandably cautious after a devastating 2.6 million-vehicle recall earlier this year that has been linked to at least 13 deaths, following the announcement with recall after recall.

"We are doing our best to minimize inconvenience to owners of recalled vehicles," said spokesman Alan Adler, as quoted by CNNMoney. "But our customers' safety comes first. If we identify an issue--large or small--that might affect the safety of our customers, we will act decisively."
