Top 5 Convertible Vehicles in U.S. Named

The Ford Mustang convertible was named the top convertible of choice across all 50 states, according to a study conducted by the Experience Automotive.

The Chrysler Sebring, which was the top model last year, came in 2nd place, according to the the 2014 list.

The top-five list also featured the Mazda Miata MX-5, BMW 3 Series and Chevrolet Corvette convertibles.

The study also determined that convertible buyers "tend to have a higher education and were more affluent than the average new-car buyer."

In the first quarter of 2014, there were 4.5 million convertibles on U.S. roads.

Approximately 52 percent of all consumers purchasing a convertible didn't have a child in the household, according to the Experience Automotive study.

The study showed that 23 percent of all convertibles in the U.S. were registered in either California or Florida. They were followed by Texas, New York, and Illinois.

Researchers found that more than 72 percent of all consumers who bought a convertible were over the age of 45.

Only 60 percent of average new-car buyers were of the same age.

The study was conducted on statistics for the first quarter of 2014.
