Microsoft's Xbox One Console Available in China This September

China Telecom has announced that it will sell Microsoft's Corp's Xbox One gaming console in China starting in September.

The country's third-largest telecommunications company said that the Xbox One will become the first console to be released in mainland China since the government banned console sales in 2000.

The price of the console has not been decided yet, according to China Telecom spokesman Ivan Wong, who spoke with Reuters.

The console will be offered exclusively to China's Telecom 30 million broadband customers.

"When Xbox One launches in September, in addition to the China Telecom consumer offer, it will also be available to the general public for purchase at retail," said Joanna Li, Microsoft's China spokeswoman, according to Reuters.

More details regarding the launch will be released sometime next week.

Last September, Microsoft and Chinese internet TV set-top box maker BesTV New Media reached a deal to form a joint venture to assemble the Xbox One consoles in Shanghai's Free Trade Zone.

The Xbox One has trailed in sales to Sony's PlayStation 4 since both were released around the same time last November.

Microsoft started selling the Xbox One within the Kinect motion sensor for $399, or $100 less than the price of the full bundle, in order to increase sales.
