There's a new Facebook app, but it's probably too cool for you.

In its latest Twitter-esque move, Facebook is launching a new iPhone app called "Mentions" that is intended for celebrities and other verified public figures.

The app, which is only available for those with a blue check mark next to their names, is part of Facebook's campaign to include more "public content" that brings world events and trending topics to the social network, Re/code reported.  

Mentions encourages its users, which would presumably be celebrities, to share statuses, photos and videos, emphasizing posting content rather than just looking at other people's pages. The app also includes a section that can show celebrities when they're being talked about.

Facebook says the app will be available to tens of thousands of users at its launch and will eventually include all public figures. 

"There is a Mentions tab that's supposed to make it easy for stars to see what people are saying about them," Re/code reported. "It looks strikingly like the "@" tab that Twitter has always had--and also uses the term 'mentions.' It is another in a series of moves that are ... inspired by Twitter's playbook."

Twitter users frequently call an "@" reply a "mention" as well as being tagged in a tweet via their "@" handles.

Facebook has employed Twitter tactics in multiple updates to the site, including the use of interactive hashtags and the addition of trending topics.  

But maybe it evens out: After all, Twitter recently revamped its user pages in an update that looks suspiciously like the Facebook layout.
