Oklahoma Chevrolet Dealer Raises $61,000 for Military Scholarships

A Tulsa, Okla., Chevrolet dealership has raised $61,000 for a foundation that gives scholarships to military members' loved ones.

Donating $100 for every car sold during June, Jim Glover Chevrolet of Tulsa will give $61,000 to Folds of Honor, a charity to distribute scholarships to children and spouses of military service members who have been killed or disabled in Iraq and Afghanistan, Edmunds.com reported.

To bring in more funding for the foundation, the dealership created a "Patriot Edition" special package for the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD Duramax Diesel, Jared Glover, vice president of the Tulsa dealership, told Edmunds.

Each Patriot Edition featured touches including "folded-flag bumper cutouts, flag stitching on the front seat upholstery and cut-out badging" and meant $600 more for the charitable fund.

"The truck is attracting a lot of attention," Glover told Edmunds.

The fundraising is good for the community and also has a personal attachment for Glover.

"My grandfather lost his leg when he was in World War II and passed away when my dad was 19 due to another injury he sustained in the war," he told Edmunds. "That's why we feel strongly about this cause."

The Jim Glover dealership also helped out last year, donating $70,000 to Folds of Honor

Folds of Honor will give out $500,000 in scholarships in Oklahoma by this fall, and the foundation will have awarded more than 8,000 scholarships to families in all 50 states, according to Edmunds.
