AT&T announced this week that it will become the first U.S. wireless carrier to sell LG Electronics' smartwatch, a watch that's capable of connecting to Android phones and answers voice commands.

The device goes on sale on July 11.

The LG "G Watch" will sell for approximately $299, according to Reuters.

"Because the LG G Watch works with so many of our Android smartphones, it should be a wearable device that appeals to a wide array of consumers," Jeff Bradley, senior vice president of devices at AT&T, said in a statement.

The device, which was made in partnership with Google, will be available for pre-orders starting on July 8.

Features includes a 1.65 inch display that delivers notifications customers can receive on their Android devices. The device can also connect to apps and calendars.

"Its ability to anticipate your schedule and traveling needs will help you plan your schedule more efficiently while on-the-go," said Bradley.

A number of media outlets have speculated that Apple's smartwatch, which has yet to formally be announced, will be released sometime this fall.

Taiwan's Quanta Computer Inc will start mass production of Apple's first smartwatch in July, according to Reuters.

The device is expected to come with a 2.5-inch display.
